CLIENT: Shawnee Community College

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The College wanted to revamp their welding program. A needs analysis identified the program as a candidate for mastery-focused (competency-based).

CHALLENGES:
Coordinating the development of the program with the training of employees.

Solutions: 
iterative prototyping and regular meetings coordinating development among multiple stakeholders.

Results:

The program received approval from the Illinois Community College Board in May, 2024, the Higher Learning Commission in October, 2025. The College was awarded “Excellence in Innovation” by the Illinois Community College Board in September, 2025.

As of October, 2025, the competency-based welding program has 15 students enrolled full-time.
